Based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, we supply, install and maintain emergency lighting systems throughout the North West area for businesses and facilities management companies.  

The Security Hub’s experienced engineers offer installation, annual testing, servicing and maintenance of emergency lighting. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, emergency lighting is legally required in premises including hotels, clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, schools and colleges, offices, shops and multi-storey dwellings.

Annual emergency lighting testing 

The Security Hub will carry out an annual test to check that emergency lighting conforms to the British Standard BS5266. A service includes a complete system health check including visual and functional tests to ensure correction operation of luminaires. Up to date documentation is provided to ensure compliance with the latest standards. We carry out:

• Visual inspections
• Functional tests
• Battery discharge tests i.e. do the emergency lights work for the correct duration (for example 3 hours) 
• Repair and replacement of lighting units

The result of the monthly and annual tests will be recorded and, if failures are detected, these will be remedied as soon as possible.

Combine with fire alarm test

The Security Hub will often carry out the annual emergency light ‘drain’ test at the same time as we carry out fire alarm system maintenance, as this fills the waiting time of the ‘drain’ test with useful activity and ensures better value for money. 

What is emergency lighting?

Emergency lighting (lighting that automatically comes on when the power supply to the normal lighting provision fails) is essential to:

• Help people escape safely and quickly from a building by illuminating areas that lead occupants to the nearest fire exit
• Help prevent panic in an emergency and during evacuation 
• Illuminate any fire equipment such as portable fire extinguishers and manual call points 
• Permit safety operations such as administering first aid and fire fighting
• Assist attending emergency services
